Quinta do Vesuvio

The Quinta is located in the Alto (Upper) Douro in North-Eastern Portugal, 120 kms east of Porto (Oporto) and 45 kms from the Spanish border. The total area is 408 hectares (1.008 acres) of which 67 hectares are under vine. This farm also produces olive oil, almonds, honey and oranges. Set in the prime wine growing area of the demarcated Port region (the oldest demarcated wine region in the world), the limits of which were set in 1756.

This farm has the maximun "A" grade classification. Port vineyards are classified from A down to F in accordance with a points system awarded on the basis of factors such as: location, aspect, soil, microclimate, grape varieties, age of vines, productivity,etc.

The estate's prodution is offered exclusively as a single Quinta Vintage Port. Total annual production of the property is at present approximately 200 "pipes" (1 pipe: 550 litres), and will rise gradually as new plantings mature. Only the very best wines are bottled as Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port.
