Cálem Port

A. A. Cálem & Filho, Lda., established in Oporto in 1859, remains today one of the few Port Wine shippers who still retain the name of the founding family.

The Cálem family's original business was shipping Portuguese Table Wines to Brazil. The companie's ships would bring wood back on their homeward voyages, wich led to the establishement of a cooperage.

The Cálems later started trading in Port."My Vintage Ports are made in a style I like... I want them to be sweet, but elegant." says Joaquim Cálem.

A suberb, old tawny Port, it is blended from the wines produced from grapes grown in the Cima Corgo area, the classic demarcated Port Wine area for quality wines. Traditionally made in our famous Quinta da Foz and our modern vinification centre in São Martinho d'Anta, shipper's Special Reserve is a superb drink at all the times, and may be served slightly chilled at the summer.
