A. A. Cálem & Filho,
Lda., established in Oporto in 1859, remains today one of the few
Port Wine shippers who still retain the name of the founding family.
The Cálem family's original
business was shipping Portuguese Table Wines to Brazil. The companie's
ships would bring wood back on their homeward voyages, wich led
to the establishement of a cooperage.
The Cálems later started
trading in Port."My Vintage Ports are made
in a style I like... I want them to be sweet, but elegant."
says Joaquim Cálem.
